5 Ways Your Social Security Check Could Increase Beyond COLA
transcript
show notes
Will your Social Security check ever go up after you start receiving benefits? Most people know about the annual COLA, but that is not the only way your monthly Social Security payment may increase.
In this video, former Social Security District Manager Dr. Ed Weir explains several ways your benefit can change, including COLA increases, AERO recomputations when new earnings are added to your record, ARF adjustments for benefits withheld because of work, and other situations that could affect what Social Security pays you.
Some increases happen automatically. Others depend on your work history, your age, or changes in the type of benefit you receive. And some people may be entitled to a higher payment without understanding why it happened.
If you already receive Social Security retirement, SSDI, survivor, or spousal benefits, or you are getting ready to file, this is an important video to understand.
