Meta Connect 2026 Through an Accessibility Lens

Meta Connect 2026 brought Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses with no cameras, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, a hearing enhancement feature and the Muse AI agent. Steven Scott and Shaun Preece go through each announcement and ask what it means for blind and low vision users. Steven and Shaun start with privacy. They look at how Mark Zuckerberg answered Joanna Stern's questions about camera glasses, then ask whether audio-only glasses make sense for blind people now that camera access opens up apps like Be My Eyes. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 gets slimmer frames, a longer battery and an action button. The Meta Ray-Ban Display, which has a screen reader and comes with the Neural Band, finally goes on sale outside the US, and Steven has already ordered a pair to review. The biggest accessibility story is hearing enhancement. It's software that turns supported glasses into an FDA-cleared over-the-counter hearing aid, but it costs extra. Shaun questions why an accessibility feature sits behind a paywall when direct hearing aid support still hasn't arrived. Steven looks into why the six-microphone glasses get the feature first. The episode ends with Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, the Muse Charm keychain device, and the 100-gram Meta VR Glasses, which could be interesting for low vision magnification.
