A Merry Heart | Finding Joy When Life Is Hard — Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. — Proverbs 17:22 (KJV)
Joy and happiness are not always the same thing.
Happiness often follows our circumstances. When life goes well, happiness comes easily. When circumstances become painful, it can disappear just as quickly.
But Scripture describes something deeper.
In this episode of Digging Another Well, we explore Proverbs 17:22 and the kind of joy that can remain even when circumstances give us little reason to feel happy.
A merry heart does not require us to pretend that suffering isn’t real. Biblical joy can acknowledge the pain while resting in something circumstances cannot take away.
Maybe the question isn’t whether your circumstances deserve joy today. Maybe it’s whether you have access to a joy that doesn’t depend upon them.
