Heath Ledger's career lasted barely more than a decade, yet it produced some of the most memorable performances of his generation. From his childhood in Perth and early work in Australian television, he progressed from teenage heart-throb to an ambitious actor determined to avoid typecasting. Roles in A Knight's Tale, Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain revealed his growing range, while fatherhood and his relationship with Michelle Williams transformed his personal life. Behind the scenes, he pursued photography, music videos and plans to direct films of his own. His accidental death at twenty-eight cut those ambitions tragically short, but his final completed performance as the Joker secured his place in cinema history.
