Why Does AI Code Break Before Observability Catches It?

show notes
AI coding tools produce working features fast, but logging, metrics and tracing almost always get added afterward, usually right after the first production incident nobody could explain. By then the failure has already happened and left no record, so the team pays twice: once for the outage and again to retrofit instrumentation onto code they never fully understood. This episode argues that with AI-generated code, observability has to be part of the spec. It cannot be a cleanup task, because the builder no longer carries a mental model of the code that could stand in for logs.
