Snake Poo

In our fifth episode, we discuss whether you should ban your girlfriend from having a facelift by locking her in the house. Plus: your reviews and our troll. Could you be our first sponsor? And extra added snake poo! We forgot to mention in this episode: the listener who sent in his fart and mash-up, with whom I shared Ad’s number last week, messaged Ad asking about his dad's old camera. Less memorable than farts, so we forgot to include it. But... drumroll... we’re meeting up with him (the guy, not his dad or his camera) and his wife for coffee this weekend! Stay tuned for how it went. Cheery stuff mentioned in this episode: The NHS and British authorities have issued warnings about cosmetic surgery in Turkey due to a high volume of botched procedures, severe infections, and reported fatalities among foreign patients. Don’t go there! I mean, you can go there on holiday… The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that unsafe healthcare causes more than 3 million deaths each year globally, with more than 50% of the harm being preventable. However, 2.6 million of these deaths are in low to middle income countries like, er, Turkey - not the UK. Ari suggested that there were 100,000 deaths from unsafe healthcare each year in the UK but this is most likely wrong. She said a facelift was £10,000 in the UK, which is almost accurate. To be perfectly accurate, a surgical facelift typically costs between £6,000 and £15,000 on average, though prices can range anywhere from £4,000 to upwards of £30,000. In Turkey, the cost of a surgical facelift typically ranges from £2,200 to £5,000. These rates are generally 60% to 75% lower than prices in the UK and are therefore very beguiling to Brits. Ari did get one stat completely right so she isn't completely useless - in *healthy* patients, the risk of not waking up from a general anaesthetic is indeed around 1 in a million. However, overall it’s more like 1 in 100,000-200,000. So try and stay away from hospitals if you can! Aside from anything else, it puts less strain on the NHS. And on your loved ones, too. Stay well out there. Especially you, Keith.

Cheery stuff mentioned in this episode:

The NHS and British authorities have issued warnings about cosmetic surgery in Turkey due to a high volume of botched procedures, severe infections, and reported fatalities among foreign patients. Don’t go there! I mean, you can go there on holiday…

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that unsafe healthcare causes more than 3 million deaths each year globally, with more than 50% of the harm being preventable.
