transcript
show notes
A devastating crash claimed the lives of many passengers, including members of a famous football team, and left the captain blamed for the tragedy. Investigators initially concluded that pilot error caused the accident, accusing him of failing to properly prepare the aircraft for takeoff. Refusing to accept this, the captain spent years fighting to prove his innocence, uncovering overlooked evidence and eyewitness accounts that pointed to dangerous runway conditions as the real cause. Eventually, it was shown that slush on the runway prevented the aircraft from gaining enough speed to lift off. Although he was later officially cleared, the damage to his career could not be undone. The case ultimately led to important changes in how aviation handles contaminated runways, improving safety for future flights.
