Proof PositiveHow the Antikythera Mechanism Works: Ancient Greece's Lost Computer Technology
What if I told you a 2,000-year-old device could predict eclipses better than most people today understand their smartphones? In this episode, Daniel Torres uncovers the mind-blowing story of the Antikythera Mechanism - basically ancient Greece's version of a computer that shouldn't exist according to everything we know about history.
On Proof Positive, we break down how this bronze contraption used over 30 meshing gears to track planetary movements with scary accuracy. You'll discover how it predicted eclipses 76 years in advance using the Saros cycle, learn about the 3,000 ancient Greek characters carved into its surface that serve as the world's oldest user manual, and find out why this device completely rewrote our understanding of ancient technology. Daniel walks through the X-ray tomography discoveries that revealed just how sophisticated Greek engineering really was - we're talking precision that wouldn't be seen again for over 1,000 years.
